2017 International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day! 🙂 On this day last year, I did a post about books that I liked or loved that feature awesome females in fiction. I’m hoping to make it yearly thing. I’m choosing to highlight books written by female authors, that I enjoyed reading within the past year, and have ladies who have shown strength in various ways. One of the reasons why I liked these books is because the female main characters have demonstrated physical, emotional, or mental strength. They fought, they endured, they persisted. And that’s always something that I would admire.

Same as last year, I’m going by genre:

Speculative fiction:
White Hot magic-binds The Mountain of Kept Memory fresh-romance Monstress
master-of-crows Warprize a-promise-of-fire a-darker-shade-of-magic
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms the-broken-kingdoms

Contemporary:
Summer Skin Iris After the Incident A Crown of Bitter Orange Pairing Off

What about you, who are some of the fictional female characters you enjoyed reading about? 🙂 As always, if you have recommendations for me based on the titles I featured here, please feel free to share them!

2016 International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day! 🙂 In honor of this day, I would like to share books that I’ve loved that feature some of my favorite fictional ladies. I liked these characters because I feel like they’ve shown their strengths in various ways. Also, these books are written by women. I came up with a list like this way back in 2012, and I know I should have made it a yearly thing but I kept forgetting. I’m glad I remembered to do it today! Since the last time I did this was in 2012, I’m going to include books that I’ve read starting from 2013.

Speculative fiction:
Uprooted Bone Gap Archivist Wasp Black Dog Pure Magic Tempting Danger

Touchstone Trilogy Medair Burn for Me Rat Queens Vol 1 Sass and Sorcery Nimona

Adult Contemporary:
Girl Before a Mirror Nowhere But Home The Chocolate Temptation A Wish Upon Jasmine The Story Guy Big Boy

YA Contemporary
I'll Meet You There Wildlife All I Ever Wanted

What about you, who are some of your favorite fictional female characters? 🙂

Shoot That Book: International Women’s Day

Shoot That Book combines my passion for books and my tendency to become trigger happy with a camera. My lack of photography skills is compensated by my enthusiasm. Basically, I like taking pictures of books.

Happy International Women’s Day, everyone! I’m over at Jo’s blog, Wear the Old Coat, talking about some of my favorite female protagonists, together with other excellent YA book bloggers. Drop by and check out her take on this year’s Women’s Day theme, “Connecting girls, inspiring futures.” Since I haven’t done a Shoot That Book post in a while, I thought it would be a good idea to focus on ladies of the literary world for today. Here are some books with kick ass heroines, most of which are my own favorites:

Why am I not surprised that all of the above are fantasy novels? Next, I thought it would be a good idea to highlight my favorite females who have strength of character instead of physical prowess:

Love me some courageous ladies. Care to share some of your own favorite fictional females?
