Ten Books I Wish Would Be TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s focus is TV shows. I used to follow several TV shows at any given time. I would try the latest shows that friends rave about and then pick the ones I want to stick with. Nowadays, I feel like I barely have enough time to read and blog and do real life stuff (like chores, ugh) so I don’t get to watch TV shows anymore even though I want to! So my topic of choice this is week is Ten Books I Wish Would Be TV Shows. I mostly picked book series so each TV episode can represent one book. First book from each series pictured below, and linked to my reviews where I have them:

Daughter of the Forest Archangel TheThief The Winter Prince ebook Code Name Verity - UK2

Magic Bites new cover Touchstone Trilogy Black Dog new cover Once Upon a Rose Interim Goddess of Love_digital cover

That’s fairy tale retelling, epic fantasy, urban fantasy, historical fiction, sci-fi and contemporary. Pretty good mix! The problem with book to movie/TV adaptations is that the latter rarely lives up to the former. But I think it’s still awesome whenever a book I love gets extra attention because it’s being adapted. What about you, what books would you love to see made into TV shows?

Ten Books I Think Should Be Required Reading for YA Fantasy Fans

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week is a back to school freebie and I choose Required Reading for YA Fantasy Fans as my topic. Now I’m not claiming to be an expert on YA fantasy, it’s just that I’m a huge fan of the genre and these are the titles that I think can be used to introduce new readers to it. In no particular order, my picks are:

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Howl's Moving Castle Ella Enchanted QueenOfAttolia

Crown Duel2 The Blue Sword Goose Girl_Alison Jay The Golden Compass Fire

What about you, what book would you include if you had to come up with a required reading list for YA fantasy? Do we share some titles?

Ten Books I HAD to Buy But Still Haven’t Read Yet

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week is TTT Rewind and we could all pick any past topic that we’ve missed. I chose Ten Books I HAD to Buy But Still Haven’t Read Yet because this is totally applicable to me! Even though I already have a huge TBR pile, I still feel like there are books that I have to buy RIGHT AWAY for various reasons. It can be because I’m in the mood to buy books or because a book has been highly recommended by a trusted source or there’s an ongoing book sale. The funny thing is, these books just end up sitting on my bookshelf, waiting patiently to be read. I’m sure most of you will be able to relate. 🙂 Here are ten books that I felt like I had to buy but still haven’t found time to read them yet:

Monstress The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - Squirrel Power Ms. Marvel Lazarus Alex + Ada

This One Summer A Thousand Nights Black Dove White Raven - UK Roses and Rot Clean Sweep

I guess this post can work as a reminder for me to bump these up the TBR pile. Also, to TRY not to buy more books until I’ve finished reading these. Kinokuniya has 20% off today and I was able to resist! Mostly because my last book haul was just a few weeks ago. Anyway, have you guys read any of the books in my list? Feel free to encourage me to read any of them. 😀 Also, what books did you HAVE to buy but still haven’t read? What TTT topic did you choose this week?

Ten Books I’d Buy If Someone Handed Me a Fully Loaded Gift Card

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Ten Books You’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed You A Fully Loaded Gift Card. I already have a mountain of books in my TBR pile and yet, there are still so many books out there that I would love to get a copy of. If I was handed a fully loaded gift card now, these are the titles I’d buy right away:

This Savage Song The Start-Touched Queen The Keeper of the Mist Jinx Mistborn - UK edition

The Fifth Season Amulet The Stonekeeper's Curse Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant Loki Agent of Asgard The Sculptor

Interestingly, all of the titles in this list are fantasy! I think that means I’m craving for fantasy reads at the moment. Although my mood can change in a matter of days so who knows what I’ll want to read by next week. Anyway, what books would you grab if you were given a gift card?

Ten Books Set Outside the US

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. So many books, especially the more well-known ones, are set in the States so I think it’s great that we get to highlight books set in other countries this week. To narrow down my pool of choices, I’m sticking with contemporary fiction that I’ve enjoyed. I also tried to limit my choices to what I’ve read in the past two years or so. Here are my picks (linked to my reviews if I have them):

Philippines
What You Wanted Loveless Childless Clueless Choco Chip Hips

India
A Bollywood Affair

Australia
Summer Skin Wildlife

France
Once Upon a Rose The Chocolate Temptation

UK
Act Like It The Winter Sea

What about you, what are books set outside the US that you’ve enjoyed?

Ten Books I Loved That Have Under 700 Ratings On Goodreads

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week, we’re supposed to talk about books that we enjoyed that have under 2000 ratings on Goodreads. This is a great topic because we get to highlight under-the-radar books that we’ve read. So it looks like SO MANY of the books that I’ve enjoyed reading are underrated because they haven’t even gotten 1000 ratings on Goodreads. These were the books that I loved (they were my favorites the year I read them) that have less than 700 ratings on Goodreads. Why 700? Because that was the number of ratings I reached when I got to ten titles. I could have kept going but I wanted to focus on these for now:

Loveless Childless Clueless Choco Chip Hips Learning to Fall A Wish Upon Jasmine Girl Before a Mirror

Northlander The Sunbird Medair Touchstone Trilogy Black Dog

Five contemporary, three fantasy, one sci-fi and one historical fiction… that’s a pretty good mix. I thought all of these books were great and would love for more readers to pick them up. If you feel like we like the same type of books then you should definitely check these out. You can click on the image to see my reviews. What about you, what are underrated books you loved?

Ten Bookworm Delights

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week is a freebie and I chose to do a topic that I missed a few weeks ago: Bookworm Delights, or random bookish things that make me happy. In no particular order, my picks are:

Book cafes! Of course, I’m a fan of normal cafes where I can hang out and read but book cafes are even better. I have posts about book cafes that I’ve visited both in Manila and Singapore in this tag.

The Reading Room SG - artwork

The Reading Room cafe in Singapore, which I visited last Sunday.

Book sales and bargain books. I’m such a sucker for bargain or discounted books, like I can go crazy whenever Kinokuniya has a 20% store-wide discount. I also tend to one click Kindle editions when they’re just 0.99usd or 1.99usd.

The smell of books. That smell that hits you whenever you walk into a library or a bookstore or really any place that has piles of books. It’s such a comforting kind of smell, and I know it’s been replicated by some perfume and candle brands but I don’t know if they’re any good.

Bookish clothes and accessories. I think it makes every book nerd happy to wear something that represents books that she/he loves. Even better if someone else recognizes it! That has never happened to me though.

Never being bored during my spare time because there are always books waiting to be read (and a blog waiting to be updated). Being a book blogger is really more of a lifestyle than just a mere hobby, and I know I would find life a bit more difficult to handle if I didn’t have books or my blog to cheer me up.

Having free time to read like when several hours stretch out when I don’t have to do chores or run errands or meet people. Or give up sleep to get some reading done. When you have an ever expanding TBR pile, it always feels like there’s never enough time to read so it feels like a gift when you get pockets of uninterrupted reading time.

Getting meaningful comments on my blog, like the type that can spark discussion or the ones that have book recommendations based on what they’ve seen me talk about. Those are the best kinds of comments and I’m very grateful whenever I receive them.

When someone picks up a book based on my recommendation. It still comes as a pleasant surprise whenever someone mentions that they read a book based on something that I said. And it makes me even happier when someone else enjoys a book as much as I did.

Book-related anticipation. When you’re in the middle of a really good book and can’t wait for the work day to finish. Or when you’re counting down the days, weeks, moths or in some cases, YEARS until the release date of a sequel or a book that you’ve been waiting for. I know I keep saying “I can’t wait!” to read a certain title, but the anticipation is part of the fun.

Having bookish places to visit when on vacation, like bookstores or libraries or the setting of a book. Sometimes, this can even be the highlight of the trip for me.

What about you, what are bookish things that you find delightful? 🙂

Ten Books I’d Bring If I Was Going to the Beach

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. There are many, many beautiful beaches across the Philippines and I think that’s one of the reasons why most Filipinos grow up to become beach lovers. I’m a huge fan of beaches but I’m also very lazy when it comes to planning a beach trip (I usually just say yes when friends ask me to go with them), and there aren’t any that are easily accessible from Manila. Which is why I don’t have any recent beach trips even if I’m currently on vacation in the Philippines. 😦

The Scorpio Races - beach

A quote from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater with Bintan Lagoon Resort in the background

I do have ideas of what books I’d bring with me IF I had a beach trip. In the past, I would usually just bring whatever book I was currently in the middle of. If I haven’t started anything, I’d bring a contemporary romance because they’re easy to get into. But what I recently realized is that graphic novels are also great reading material when you’re on the go… A graphic novel is something that can be instantly absorbing and also something that can be read in small chunks. So if I had a beach trip planned, I would have brought these books with me:

Amulet The Stonekeeper's Curse Alex + Ada 5,000 km per second Ms. Marvel The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - Squirrel Power

This One Summer American Born Chinese Anya's Ghost Lazarus Mythspace

I really need to step up in reading these graphic novels that are on my TBR pile. What about you, what books will you bring with you if you had a beach trip? Do you have a go-to genre or type of book when it comes to beach reads?

Ten Books That Made Me Laugh

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I love books that are witty or funny or just generally so much fun to read that they either make me laugh or smile while I’m reading. I may not end up loving the whole book but I think it’s a special thing when an author is able to get a laugh or smile out of a reader. These are some books that have some scenes that I’ve found hilarious:

Something About You Once Upon a Rose The Deal The Rosie Project Bet Me

Magic Strikes Burn for Me The Amulet of Samarkand Howl's Moving Castle Uprooted

Five contemporaries and five fantasy novels. Have you read any of these titles? Did you find them funny too? What are books that you’ve found hilarious?

Ten Contemporary Romance Books I’ve Recently Enjoyed

Top Ten Tuesday2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today is a special Tuesday because it’s MY BIRTHDAY. Woohoo! *throws confetti* *shares cake with everyone* And because I’m such a book nerd, talking about books on my birthday is always a good idea. This week’s TTT topic is supposed to be 5 star reads, but I rarely give a 5 star rating so I thought I’d share books that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed since the beginning of the year. I’m going to go for a contemporary romance theme on this post, because I’m always up for a good romance. They’re so easy to get into and I can usually finish a book in one sitting. Writing a review is a different matter, however. Which is why I want to take this opportunity to highlight some of the titles I’ve really liked.

Summer Skin Act Like It Artistic License Pairing Off Us

His Road Home Night Wish MidnightClear Carolina Dreaming Soppy by Philippa Rice

Have you read any of these titles? If yes, what did you think of them? If you read contemporary romance, I would love to get some good recommendations! If you’re not into this genre, please feel free to talk about books that you’ve recently loved because I’d be interested in hearing them. I have pretty eclectic tastes when it comes to the books I read and I can never predict what I’ll be in the mood for.

And now I’m off to enjoy the day! I took time off from work and my goals are simple: have some good food and read a great book.
