BWB IMM: January 23

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by Kristi of The Story Siren and was inspired by Alea of Pop Culture Junkie. This meme is about books that you received or bought during the week.

I haven’t done an IMM post in a while because I haven’t bought any books recently. I’m slowly working on the books on my current TBR pile. I think it’s great that I haven’t experienced a book craving (meaning the urge to buy books) recently. I already wrote a post about the Book Blogger Holiday Swap package that I received and I got my Better World Books order on the same day. I ordered these books on December 24 and it took a couple of weeks to get here. I was starting to get worried that they might’ve gotten lost in the mail.

Lady of the Forest by Jennifer Roberson
Romance is a Wonderful Thing by Ellen Emerson White
Life Without Friends by Ellen Emerson White
Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers

All of these books aren’t available locally and the two Ellen Emerson White books are out of print so I was excited to order pre-loved copies from Better World Books. The first three books are all recommendations by Angie while the last one is from Sounis. I look forward to reading all of them. What about you, what books did you receive this week?

  1. I am a Dorothy L.Sayers fan, so glad to see her book in your mailbox. Better World Books is really good for books which aren’t easily available.
    Happy Reading!

    • This is the first time that I’ll try Dorothy Sayers. I’ve been hearing so many good things about Lord Peter Wimsey over at Sounis and it made me really curious. Better World Books is great for out of print and used books. For brand-new books though, I usually order from the Book Depository.

  3. I love Strong Poison. Can’t wait to see what you think it. It is the first of the Peter/Harriet quartet so it is a better place to start than I did which was the third book in the quartet (Gaudy Night). Peter is a bit off his game for the first half of the book, more panicked than he normally is, but the shenanigans of the supporting characters (his assistants) are awesome in this one.

    • Brandy, you’re probably one of the people in Sounis who constantly talk about Strong Poison and Lord Peter Wimsey. Good to know that it’s a good place to start! I was worried since I had no idea what’s the first book in the series. I just knew that it was a favorite among Sounisians (which always a good thing).

      • The very first Peter book is called Whose Body. But you definitely do not need to read them in order. I sure didn’t. The Peter/Harriet books are my favorites, particularly Gaudy Night and Busman’s Honeymoon but Strong Poison is where Peter and Harriet begin so I have a soft spot for that one too.

      • Yay, good to know that I don’t have to read them in order! I love series like those. You can jump in anytime with any book that you want. I’m glad I chose Strong Poison then because I have a feeling I’d like Peter and Harriet.

  4. Oh my goodness! I’m so excited with that haul. πŸ™‚

It really will be interesting to hear what you think of both OUTLAWS and LADY. Even if you don’t read them back to back, they’ll be much closer together than I originally read them. And they are just such different takes on Robin Hood. But I ❀ them both BIG TIME.

    • Pretty good haul, right? πŸ˜› You can totally see your influence in the books that I buy.

I’m currently in the middle of Outlaws and I’m liking it so far. I was surprised when I saw Lady because it’s just a hefty book. I probably won’t read them back to back because I might get confused. LOL.

  5. How funny. I just got Lady of the Forest a few weeks ago and finished just yesterday (also due to Angie!). I really enjoyed the varying perspectives and the sheer length of the book. Very good choice all!

    • Ooooh you’ve read it! I look forward to reading your review of it. I was actually surprised at the length of Lady of the Forest but I’m glad to hear that it’s really good. πŸ™‚
