Want Books: Storm Front

Want Books? is a weekly meme hosted here at Chachic’s Book Nook and features released books that you want but you can’t have for some reason. It can be because it’s not available in your country, in your library or you don’t have the money for it right now. Everyone is free to join, just grab the image above. Leave a comment with a link to your post so I can do a roundup with each post.

So many people have been recommending the Dresden Files and I’ve been hesitant to give it a try because I want to trim down my TBR first. There are 11 books out in this series and more are due in the coming years so I don’t want to commit just yet. However, some book blogger friends have said that this series is actually as good as my favorite urban fantasy series – the Kate Daniels books – so I’m curious. For now, I’ve added the first book to my wishlist. If you’ve read the books in the series, feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think of them.

Here’s the summary for the first book, Storm Front, from Jim Butcher’s website:

Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he’s the only at what he does. So when the Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things – and most of them don’t play well with humans. That’s where Harry comes in. Takes a wizard to catch a – well, whatever.

There’s just one problem. Business, to put it mildly, stinks. So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry’s seeing dollar signs. But where there’s black magic, there’s a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry’s name. And that’s when things start to get… interesting.

Magic. It can get a guy killed.

What about you, what’s on your wishlist? 🙂

  1. Awesome! You’ve put it on the official “Want Books” list! I do like this series. Fool Moon is better than Storm Front I think, but they are super fun. I hope it doesn’t let you down. I might even be convinced to part with my copy should you need to read it sooner rather than later!

    • It’s funny how you usually encourage me to read the books that I already have instead of going off to buy new ones but it looks like you wouldn’t mind if I buy and read this book. 😛 It’s just that there are so many books in the series and I don’t want to start a long series while I’m still working on trimming down my TBR.

  2. I agree with your friends. This is a MUST read series! You’ll love it! I need to re-read this series now. 😉 (Both of Butcher’s series are good!) My younger brother is currently reading his Codex Alera series and LOVING it. I need to get him hooked on the Dresden Files next. 😉

    • Hey Corrine, thanks for the input! I know this series has a lot of fans out there. 🙂 I’m really curious about it since Carin (see above) likens it to the Kate Daniels series. I’m just not sure when I’ll get around to reading it since I still have a lot of books in my TBR.

    • Tina, usually people recommend the Mercy Thompson books to Kate Daniels fans and vice verse. I’ve read the first three Mercy books and I liked them but Kate is still my favorite. 🙂 You should check those out when you’re done with the Kate books.

Thanks for doing a Want Books post! I left a comment there. 🙂

  3. I read this last year, so I don’t recall much about it, but I remember that I did like it. 11 books is a lot, so I suggest you try the first book in the meantime. I’d be happy to give you my copy if you want it.:)

  4. There’s actually 12 main Dresden Files books out (though admittedly, the book 12 is only in hardback at the moment). There’s also some short stories to go with the series and a novelette. The series in fantastic and gets better and better with each book. I’d certainly recommend it!

    • 12 books?! That’s really a lot! I don’t think I’ve read a series with that many books in it. I’ll probably just try the first book and see where it goes.

    • Yeah, One of the short story I know is included on Mean Streets (about the character of Michael Carpenter) and for the novelette is Backup (the story of Thomas Raith, a vampire and the half-brother of Harry Dresden). Both Michael and Thomas are great characters that if you really are a Dresden fan, you would definitely like to know their stories as well. ^_^

  5. Did you ever get the chance to read this one? I’ll do a search. I’m wondering what you thought of it. I can’t remember. The reason is because I’m thinking about getting the second book.

Comments are like chocolate. :) Maraming salamat / thank you!
