McKinley Covers

I’ve been seeing these two editions of Robin McKinley’s books around Fully Booked and I’ve been tempted to get them even though I already have copies of both books. I’ve read both but in case you haven’t here are the book summaries from Robin McKinley’s website:

As the newly appointed Chalice, Mirasol is the most important member of the Master’s Circle. It is her duty to bind the Circle, the land and its people together with their new Master. But the new Master of Willowlands is a Priest of Fire, only drawn back into the human world by the sudden death of his brother. No one knows if it is even possible for him to live amongst his people. Mirasol wants the Master to have his chance, but her only training is as a beekeeper. How can she help settle their demesne during these troubled times and bind it to a Priest of Fire, the touch of whose hand can burn human flesh to the bone?

Robin McKinley weaves a captivating tale that reveals the healing power of duty and honor, love and honey.

Rae, nicknamed Sunshine by her stepfather, is the baker at her family’s coffeehouse. She’s happy getting up at 4 am to make cinnamon rolls for the breakfast rush, and dealing with people and food all day. But one evening she needed somewhere she could be alone for a little while, and there hadn’t been any trouble out at the lake for years.
She never thought of vampires.
Until they found her.

If you haven’t read these books, I suggest that you pick them up soon. With those lovely new covers, I hope more people will be tempted to buy the books. I read both before I started the blog so I don’t have reviews up but McKinley is one of my favorite authors and I love reading her work. And just because I can’t wait for this to come out, I’m posting the beautiful cover for Pegasus:

  1. hi! I got my eye on Pegasus. I wish there are a lot of bookstores that sell second hand YA books… 😦 I happen to visit a lot of bookstores and all I see are plenty of paperbacks from numerous authors that I like, James Patterson, Sandra Brown, Dan Brown and many others. Don’t get me wrong, I adore these authors. I have a theory on why the YA books are very hard to find on bargain bookstores. Because teens, I guess, nowadays collects and preserve their books. You know…Unlike the adults, they tend to swap it, or donate it, or not collect the books and so on…I’m falling apart here.Lol. What do you think? I’m so loving the YA pool right now, with the great books that I’ve been seeing from a lot of book bloggers.Again, they are very refreshing to me…it’s nice to get out of my comfort zone sometimes.

  2. I have the first Sunshine cover, the dark red and black one. I think I actually prefer it to the sparkly one here.

I do *love* the Chalice cover though. It’s beautiful.

And I’m so EXCITED for Pegasus. Stupid Pegasus. Stupid cliffhanger ending that I already know about but which won’t stop me from reading it anyway.

    • I have the same edition! I like the sparkly one though. It looks more YA than the original cover and I hope it attracts more readers.

I love the original Chalice cover but this one looks lovely as well.

Me too, I’m still going to grab and read Pegasus as soon as I can even though I know it has a cliffhanger ending. I hope they come out with the second book early next year. I have no idea when’s the release date.

    • Joy, I think you’ll like Sunshine because it’s urban fantasy. πŸ™‚ I should do a reread because I wasn’t a fan of the genre back when I read it. I have a feeling I’ll feel differently when I read it again.

  3. Oooh I’ve seen Chalice in Eastwood, and yes it is beautiful! Sunshine is beautiful, too, and I like that it plays on the sparkly vampire thing. πŸ˜‰ I actually had no intention of getting it before since I am not a fan of vampires, but I trust your taste. That, and you said it’s similar to Magic Bites, so yeah, this will be in my wish list. πŸ™‚

    • I really need to do a reread of both because I want to put up reviews of them but if you liked Magic Bites, then you’ll probably like Sunshine as well. πŸ™‚

    • Three Sunshine editions? You should take pictures and post them on your blog. In fact, take pictures of all of your McKinleys. I believe you have all of her books. The only one I don’t have are the anthologies with Peter Dickinson and Dragonhaven.

  4. I’m interested in picking up Chalice because I’m in the middle of McKinley’s Spindle’s End now. Thanks for telling me that it’s available locally! πŸ˜› Also can’t wait for Pegasus.

Comments are like chocolate. :) Maraming salamat / thank you!
