Yesterday, I was in Cubao so I decided to check out National Bookstore’s previously-owned books (POB) section to see if there was anything interesting. I ended up buying 5 books:
Beauty by Robin McKinley (hardcover, which I passed on to hakaw)
Postcards from No Man’s Land by Aidan Chambers
Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume
The Frog Princess by E. D. Baker
and a chick lit book that had a cute cover, I can’t remember the title though
I only ended up paying P160 (roughly $3) for these. It feels great to get good bargains in used bookstores. I remember when peanut13171 took me around SoCal’s used bookstores, I was amazed at the stocks that they had there. I wish we had something like that over here. We only have a couple of used bookstores – Book Sale, Books for Less, National’s POB and some stalls in UP. And the selections aren’t that great.
But then again, authors don’t anything from used books, right? So maybe I should just wish for a good indie bookstore in Manila. I would love to have something like Mysterious Galaxy – a bookstore that specializes in Sci Fi, Fantasy, Mystery and Suspense. If (and that’s a big IF) I become rich, I’d put up something lika that just for fun. I’ll add a coffee shop inside so people can hang out and read or talk about books. Libre naman mangarap (free to dream).
I like that saying, too! Hope it happens.
I think it can also be translated as “one can hope”. It’s hard to translate sometimes because there are no direct translations.
Anyway, I really hope it happens too! π Then I’ll make all your books available here, even the ones from Samhain and Norilana.
not working! hahaha. dapat multi-tasking π
thank you for Beauty! daan ako sa monday π can i borrow Postcard From No Man’s Land, I was planning to buy it at FB Cubao two days ago, but I’m still hesitant about it.
Haha I’ll keep that in mind next time.
Sure, you can borrow it. But after you finish reading Crown Duel, I’m making you read the Queen’s Thief books first. Hahaha.
