SF/Fantasy Book Survey

Another book survey, this one’s more specific to those who like sci-fi and fantasy. I’m more into fantasy than sci-fi so I don’t get some of the references.

Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback?
Mass Market Paperback or Trade Paperback so I can buy more books with my money.

Heinlein or Asimov?
Err I haven’t read any of their works.

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?
Amazon! &hearts

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Barnes & Noble

Hitchhiker or Discworld?
I haven’t read either but I’m planning to read both. I already have Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching books.

Bookmark or Dogear?
Bookmark of course. Why would you damage a book?

Alphabetize by author Alphabetize by title or random?
Alphabetize by author’s last name. But my bookshelf is not arranged because of lack of space.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell?

Year’s Best Science Fiction series (edited by Gardner Dozois) or Years Best SF series (edited by David G. Hartwell)?
Err no idea

Keep dustjacket or toss it?
Keep, of course.

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
Remove so it doesn’t get in the way

Short story or novel?

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Hmmm I would have to go with Harry Potter

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Chapter breaks.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
“Once upon a time”

Buy or Borrow?

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
All of the above. Recommendations first and then I check out the reviews but I like browsing as well.

Lewis or Tolkien?
I love them both. Lewis is easier to read and Tolkien’s complexity is amazing.

Hard SF or Space Opera?

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Anthology. More authors in one book.

Hugo or Nebula?
Doesn’t matter

Golden Age SF or New Wave SF?

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
Tidy ending

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
More of afternoon and nighttime because I’m not a morning person.

Top X favorite genre books of all time? (Where X is 5 or less) (some of these are series as well, I couldn’t choose which ones to remove in the series list so I put the others here)

End of survey. I just have to mention that Fully Booked texted me that they already have a copy of Robin McKinley’s latest book: Chalice. Yay I’m excited!
