Want Books: Grimspace

Want Books? is a weekly meme hosted here at Chachic’s Book Nook and features released books that you want but you can’t have for some reason. It can be because it’s not available in your country, in your library or you don’t have the money for it right now. Everyone is free to join, just grab the image above. Leave a comment with a link to your post so I can do a roundup with each post.

This week’s pick is Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, recommended by Chelle of Tempting Persephone. She recommended it when I mentioned that I don’t read a lot of science fiction but I did love Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.

Here’s the summary from Ann Aguirre’s website:

By all accounts, Sirantha Jax should have burned out years ago…

As the carrier of a rare gene, Jax has the ability to jump ships through grimspace — a talent which cuts into her life expectancy, but makes her a highly prized navigator for the Corp. But then the ship she’s navigating crash-lands, and she’s accused of killing everyone on board. It’s hard for Jax to defend herself: she has no memory of the crash.

Now imprisoned and the subject of a ruthless interrogation, Jax is on the verge of madness. Then a mysterious man breaks into her cell, offering her freedom — for a price. March needs Jax to help his small band of rogue fighters break the Corp monopoly on interstellar travel — and establish a new breed of jumper.

Jax is only good at one thing — grimspace — and it will eventually kill her. So she may as well have some fun in the meantime…

Sounds awesome! This looks like a book that I’ll definitely enjoy. Unfortunately, the bookstores here don’t carry this title so I have to put this on the list of books that I’ll probably order online. How about you, what’s on your wishlist?

  1. Ooohh… This series is really good. Especially the first book. Hopefully you can track it down soon. And I am very, very, very happy you got the first 4 Mercy books! Can’t wait for your thoughts!

    • I’ve heard great things about this one and I really like the cover. I’m hoping to get it soon as well. I’m still waiting for one book that I ordered to get here, maybe when it does, I can look into ordering again. :)

I’m excited to read the Mercy Thompson books! Not sure when I’ll get around reading it, I’m still finishing the Sevenwaters series (currently reading Heir to Sevenwaters) so we’ll see.

  2. i got my copy from Booksale. there may be some more copies flaoting around in some branches.

  3. I love the Jax series by Anne Aguirre! Action-packed and kicked-ass heroine (grins)! I’ve read all of the series. It’s not so hard-core sci-fi, and I love it!
Mercy Thompson Series is one of my favorites! I second the reco!
I’m really into urban fantasy. I’m currently obsess with Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghost series! really dark and gritty, not for the faint of heart!

    • Hey Arlene, it’s great that you’ve also read this book. May I ask where were you able to get a copy? :) I’m excited to read the Mercy Thompson books! I’ll get to that as soon as I finish reading a couple of YA books in my TBR.
